Job Description:
The Treasurer, a voluntary position, plays a vital role in supporting the financial health and sustainability of Portsmouth & Gosport History. As a member of the Senior Management Team the Treasurer will oversee the organisation’s financial activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while supporting the strategic goals of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Reporting:
- Assist in developing and implementing financial strategies and plans in alignment with the organisation’s goals.
- Participate in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and financial reports for presentation to the Senior Management Team.
- Support the monitoring and reporting of the organisation’s financial performance.
Financial Operations:
- Provide assistance with day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Support cash flow management as needed.
Financial Governance:
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure compliance with financial laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Assist with financial audits and related activities.
- Support the maintenance and updating of financial policies and procedures.
Fundraising and Grant Management:
- Collaborate with the Fundraising Committee to develop and execute fundraising strategies and initiatives.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and reporting to grantors.
- Assist in tracking and acknowledging donations, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
Senior Management Engagement:
- Provide regular financial updates to the Senior Management Team and attend meetings.
- Offer insights and advice on financial matters and contribute to strategic discussions.
- Collaborate with other board members and committees to achieve organisational objectives.
Qualifications:
- While formal qualifications are not a strict requirement, a background in finance, accounting, or related fields is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of financial principles and accounting practices is beneficial.
- Proficiency in basic financial software and tools (e.g., Excel) is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are helpful.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to learning about financial management.
- Enthusiasm for the mission and values of Portsmouth & Gosport History.
