What We're All About
Portsmouth & Gosport History is a group of like minded people who are keen to bring awareness to local history through research, events and partnerships. We are a non-for-profit organisation, meaning all money we raise goes back into our aims outlined in our constitution.
One of our aims is to encourage and support younger generations into the history sector by creating a lasting interest in history, culture and community.
The group was originally founded by 16-year-old William Donaldson in 2019 to raise awareness of our local history and cultures. We have grown from a small Facebook site to a large and meaningful organisation which has a positive impact on the local community.
We continue to work with similar groups, companies, and organisations to further promote and develop a joint understanding of local history thus presenting this through events such as History Week with Wessex Archaeology.

Working across sectors and bridging the gaps
We are one of the leading historical societies in the Hampshire region that provide free services such as events, research, projects, partnerships, and engagement opportunities for other events, occasions, and celebrations. We have worked with other leading organisations in their sectors such as Archeology, heritage trusts, and reenactment groups. We continue to work with our stakeholders, local councils, and national groups to enlighten and promote local and national history to communities across Hampshire.
